When I was in high school, my graduating class named me "The Next Picasso", but it was far from what I wanted to become. I wasn't even a fan of the great Cubist.
My love for Math kept me from pursuing Fine Arts studies. I thought, "Four years of art classes? Come on, I want to do something more!"
When I entered University of Toronto, I gave my left brain a full workout instead. I was in for a new adventure and so it began. I traded my pastels set for Julia set, colour theory for number theory and Monet for Poisson.
I studied Math because I liked numbers and manipulating equations, not because I was aiming to formulate a solution that would unlock the secrets of the universe. I spent endless hours in Knox Library writing proofs and many sleepless nights studying. The experience was highly challenging, but all physical and mental strain would melt away upon arriving to that elegant solution to a problem.
Being a Math specialist was not a glamorous life for a student.
